Y!TunnelPro Messenger V1.1 Build 123 now available!
Posted by Thomas Andrew on April 30, 2004 at 05:39:14 PM PDT
The traditional Y!TunnelPro release bug has struck once again. Build 272 has been released and corrects a problem with users running Yahoo Messenger Build 1338 and below. The bug causes text in chatrooms and pm's to display all formatting information for fonts and colors. This bug does not affect users running Messenger 5.6 Build 1339 and above or the new Messenger 6.0 Beta.

Y!TunnelPro V1.3 Build 270 now available!
Posted by Thomas Andrew on April 30, 2004 at 11:46:48 AM PDT
Y!TunnelPro V1.3 Build 270 is now available for download. This release addresses several incompatibilities with Yahoo Messenger 6.0. Also addressed are several security vulnerabilities that were discovered in Messenger 6.0 since its release.

The following cosmetic issues are still present but are extremely minor and will be corrected in the next release:

  • In some cases the Y!Tunnel menu that is added to IM's, chat, and the buddy list window has a gray background after the menu closes. Extremely minor.

  • The feature to enlarge the text entry window on a PM no longer functions due to the new Avatar/Buddy Icon/Display Image feature. It does however still work on the Chat Window. I am currently assessing this buglet to determine the effort required to correct this issue or not and will post more information as soon as I make a decision.

I've experienced a couple of issues with webcams but have been unable to determine if it's just a simple incompatibility in the Webcam handler in Y!Tunnel (i.e. a legit update to the webcam in Yahoo) or a bug in Messenger. One we have a full assessment of the issue I will most more information concerning this problem. If you experience webcam problems when using Messenger 6.0 Beta but do NOT experience the problem using Messenger 5.5 or 5.6 do not report this as a Y!TunnelPro problem.

Several updates and features have also been included this release:

  • The SPAM filters have been updated significantly and several new common pattern scans have been added. There *IS* an unfortunate site effect as some cases yield quite a few false positives. I decided to leave the current updates alone and wait for some feedback. Normally I would play it safe and tone them down or even eliminate them but with the Safe User Bin having been recently added there ir a method to work around it if your particular situation renders too many false positives (i.e. some topics of conversation).
  • New settings have been added for the Audibles feature. You can select to allow audibles only from people on your buddy list as well as block audibles from people you have not contacted.
  • The menu's have been fixed in Messenger 6.0
  • The ad blocker has been fixed in Messenger 6.0
  • The ad blocker has been enhanced for future updates
  • A Y!TunnelPro Content Tab has been added to messenger and works the same way as the news, weather, stocks, etc. tabs already in Messenger. This simply displays a page containing links to news articles here and other IM related websites. I'm working on adding stats for most recent forum posts and most popular forum posts as well as quick links for other items of interest.
  • Menu items have been added for View Nicknames, Join User In Chat, Create Chartoom, and Join Chatroom which are missing n 6.0. Yahoo will be adding these in for the next release but I am unsure of when it'll be available. So as a short term fix it'll do. This might cause problems when the next Messenger is release but I'll remove then items when necessary.

I am also looking into the possibility of adding a 'Skip Commercial' feature for Messenger 6.0 when playing music through LAUNCHcast.

the new versiuon of ytunnelpro messenger should be out later on today.

Everything is back up and running and you should be able to access the site with no problems. We will be monitoring the server for the next few hours to ensure that the problem has been corrected.
